Borgo a Mozzano is the first town you come across in the Serchio Valley area. The village is famous for the presence of the Maddalena Bridge, a magnificent and somewhat visionary medieval structure and symbol of the Valley and of the whole of Lucca.
Theater of a thousand bloody battles and civil massacres during the Second World War, the Middle Serchio Valley still keeps traces of them intact in the Museum of Memory, located in the historic center of Borgo a Mozzano. In addition to the Museum of Memory, it is possible to visit some of the sites of the Gothic Line of the Borgo a Mozzano barrier, which stands out for the high number and good state of conservation of the fortified works, also due to its strategic position, as it is protected from the reliefs of the Apuan Alps and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. In fact, here the Gothic Line has maintained its original features: bunkers, lay-bys, walkways and anti-tank valleys.
Borgo a Mozzano is also the second official stage of the religious path of the Via Matildica del Volto Santo, officially recognized in the regional Atlas of historical paths. Finally, in the northern area there is the historical tower Bargiglio, so-called eye of Lucca, and along the way to reach it you will find the astronomical observatory and the San Bartolomeo hermitage.
